THE BRIEF

Project: YouPress Play, Poster Design.
Client: You Press
Objective: To design a poster for a special August edition of You Press Play, an event created to spotlight young emerging artists in Newham. Hosted as part of the Royal Docks Summer Splash, the event aimed to provide a welcoming and supportive platform for local performers, from spoken word artists and rappers to singers and poets to share their talents with the community.

THE CONCEPT

The poster was designed to visually reflect the energy, creativity, and inclusive spirit of the event. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic mix of performances and the vibrant local culture, the concept aimed to celebrate individual expression while highlighting the sense of unity that the event fostered.

A limited color palette was intentionally used to allow the shapes, textures, and movement within the design to take center stage. These abstract elements symbolized the diversity of artistic voices present, while also visually referencing the fluidity and rhythm of the Royal Docks’ waters, anchoring the design in its local setting.

THE EXECUTION

The poster features abstract shapes and layered patterns to convey the spontaneity and creative flow of live performance. The visual elements were carefully composed to feel both energetic and harmonious, representing individuality and collective spirit simultaneously. A restricted palette was used to create visual clarity and cohesion, emphasizing form and movement over intricate detail. This minimal approach allowed the concept to stay bold, modern, and easily adaptable across formats.

The final design captured the celebratory and uplifting tone of the event, while maintaining a professional and approachable visual identity that resonated with both young audiences and the broader community.

Displayed as part of the Royal Docks Summer Splash campaign, the poster helped elevate visibility for the event and supported You Press’s mission of empowering young voices through art and expression.
